    Description

    Meet Anjali's Amma and Appa.

The gentle parents who raised Anjali by the Kochi backwaters — a Montessori pair for family and role-play.

If you have brought Anjali home already, you know her — the quiet four-year-old from Kochi who lines up jasmine buds on the windowsill and holds her Ammuma's hand a little tighter than she needs to. This is where she gets it from.

Anjali's Amma wears a kasavu saree — cream cotton with a fine gold border — the way Malayali women have worn it for generations. Her hair is pulled back in a low bun; a jasmine strand is tucked into it. She runs a small tailoring business from home, keeps a steel dabba of tea biscuits for anyone who visits, and knows every neighbor's name by heart. She's the reason Anjali is gentle. She's also the reason Anjali knows how to fold a banana leaf.

Anjali's Appa wears a Kerala mundu — the traditional cream dhoti with a gold-bordered angavastram draped over one shoulder. He works at the shipyard and comes home smelling faintly of salt and steel. He is quiet in the way many South Indian fathers are quiet — few words, careful attention, and a small smile that means everything. He is Anjali's first hero, though he'd be embarrassed if anyone said so.

Together, Amma and Appa are the reason Anjali watches the light change over the backwaters each evening — because that's what her parents do, and she learned by copying them.

    Why parents love this set

    • Two hand-stitched dolls — Amma and Appa together in one gift box
    • 100% soft cotton fabric with authentic Kerala kasavu and mundu-angavastram styling
    • Montessori-aligned family role-play companion — the parent pair for imaginative family play
    • Named characters— they are Anjali's actual parents in the Kindora Family universe
    • Meaningful gift for baby showers, Onam, wedding gifts, and gifting to Kerala/Malayali families
    • Save ₹499 vs buying two individual dolls — priced as a family set, not two solos
    • Part of the Kindora Family — parents to Anjali, with cousins and grandparents across India (Meera, Aarohi, Padma, Nani, Nana)

How Amma & Appa grow with your child.

Ages 1–2: Amma and Appa are two contrasting soft companions. Babies feel the softness of Amma's cotton saree and the smoother texture of Appa's mundu — subtle sensory distinction that helps early tactile recognition.

Ages 2–4: Amma and Appa become family role-play companions. Children introduce them into every play scenario — "Amma is cooking, Appa is reading, Anjali is playing." This is the earliest form of family narrative play, and it builds the vocabulary of family relationships.

Ages 4–6: Amma and Appa become the "grown-ups" in imaginative play. Children practice social scripts through them — Amma answering the door, Appa going to work, Amma and Appa attending Anjali's school function. Great for building social confidence and understanding routines.
