Meet Aarohi.

Aarohi is six years old, and she cannot sit still.

Her name means "the rising musical scale" — the notes you climb when you sing, one after another, higher and higher. Her Nani chose the name the day Aarohi was born, saying, "This one will always be reaching upward." She was right.

Aarohi's rose-pink pattu — with its deep purple-and-gold zari border — was a gift from her Nani on her fifth birthday, wrapped in tissue and tied with a red thread. Nani was a dancer too, once, before her knees stopped agreeing with her. Now she claps the beat from her chair while Aarohi practices in the drawing room, spinning until the pallu of her pattu blurs into a pink circle.

Aarohi learns Kathak on Saturdays. She learns Bharatanatyam on Sundays. On weekdays, she invents her own dances in her bedroom and forgets what she was supposed to be studying.

Ages 1–2: Aarohi is a soft companion for early movement play. Babies hold her while parents sing lullabies — she becomes the "dance partner" for the earliest sway-and-sing games.

Ages 2–4: Aarohi becomes a rhythm and dance companion. Children spin her, twirl with her, march with her. Introduce simple beats — clapping, tapping, moving — with Aarohi as the model.
